Jake Graham

Colonel Jacob L. Graham, USMC (Ret), is a Professor of Practice at The Pennsylvania State University College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) and Director of the Red Cell Analytics Lab (RCAL). After retiring from the Marine Corps after 26 years of active service, Jake joined the IST faculty in October 2007.

He teaches Security and Risk Analysis with a concentration in Intelligence Analysis and Modeling. His passions are writing and facilitating Analytical Decision Games, teaching analytic methods, and mentoring students. He’s in his ninth year as a Faculty Mentor for Penn State Men’s Volleyball.

An AH-1 Cobra pilot by military occupational specialty, Col. Graham has operated across the globe as an attack helicopter commander, mission commander, and Aviation Weapons and Tactics Instructor. Col. Graham served in various tactical roles throughout his military career, including Intelligence Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, Air Planner, Air Targeting Officer, and Forward Air Controller.

Col. Graham graduated from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Air Force Air War College. He completed two Pentagon tours, one as a Political-Military Affairs analyst and another as the Assistant Inspector General for Marine Corps Matters.

He retired from the Office of the Secretary of the Navy, where he served as the Naval Discharge Review Board President.

In his last operational overseas tour, Col. Graham served as the Non-Strategic Nuclear Force Advisor to the Commander of U.S. European Command and Mission Commander for the EUCOM Airborne Nuclear Command Post. In this capacity, he was also the senior U.S. advisor for U.S. NATO nuclear operations.

Col Graham was forward deployed during the lead-up and initial phase of the Iraqi war as the Operations Officer (J-3) for Joint Task Force North, US EUCOM/Central Command, whose mission was to facilitate the movement of combat forces across Turkey into northern Iraq.

He has served as both a Squadron Commander and an Airbase Commander. Col. Graham also completed a 4 ½-year White House flying tour piloting Presidents George H. W. Bush and William J. Clinton.

Col Graham is the author of over thirty academic papers and recently published his first novel, Scimitar Strike, the first in a five-book series. Book two, The Assassin’s Mace, is due for release in September 2024.

Jake is married to Dr. Kim Graham, a Penn State Graduate and retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Marines. They have two children: Meghan, 29, a Penn State, College of IST and SRA graduate who lives in Washington, DC, and works as a government analyst, and Brett, 25, who also lives and works in Washington, DC. Brett is a UCONN graduate and former football player. He also played a graduate season at the University of Tennessee.
